Hey hey friendos, and happy Monday! We are 2 days out from Overcoming the Imposter: Somatic Witchcraft for Artists! I have not actually been asked what Somatic Witchcraft means, but I do think it's a fair question because it sounds like I made it up. Let me be clear, I absolutely made it up. For funsies, let's talk about it. "Somatic", from the Greek soma meaning the body, means...the body, aka the meatsuit. Somatics, on the other hand, describes a field within bodywork and movement studies which focuses on internal physical perception and personal embodied experience. It's lent itself to many sensation-based movement practices including Alexander technique and the Feldenkrais method. Somatics is often used for self-knowledge, improving movement patterns, and healing disruption or injury, using the body as a compass. It's an internal practice, often with internal effects. Witchcraft is a "doing" word. To "do a work" or a spell is an active practice, often with the aim of channeling natural forces (including personal power) to enact a shift, change, or alteration. We use witchcraft to influence ourselves and our lives. Notice I did not say "supernatural forces". There are no supernatural forces that I know of- nature is the ultimate law. It's just way cooler and rich with unthinkable possibilities than we can conceive. But just because we can't concieve of it's limitless potential doesn't mean we can't use it. Easily. Somatics- we go inside. Witchcraft- to effect the outside. And that is the story of why I named this workshop Somatic Witchcraft. The ocean that I walked along to come up with it is an unpaid actor but I try to give back where I can, and credit where credit is due. Thank you, mama Atlantic! We go live July 8th at 12pm EST. The workshop will be one hour, and a replay will be available to anyone who enrolls for lifetime access. The price is $20 monies, as I wanted to make it super accessible. After the live workshop ends at 1pm it will revert to the regular price of $47, so early birds get the cheapo worms. You can reply here if you have any questions, or enroll at the button below:
I hope to see you soon! Don't go back to sleep. xoRachel |
